Puerto Vallarta Restaurants
Puerto Vallarta is a city with only about 250,000
residents and Puerto Vallarta probably has a restaurant for each of
them, with foods that vary from traditional Mexican fare to German,
French, Greek, Italian, Chinese, Japanese....to name a few. Of
course, seafood, or "Mariscos" is the number one offering in
Vallarta.
There are so many great seafood restaurants that owners are forced
to compete for the best and most dramatic "view" of the ocean. And
views they have. Some of the top restaurants offer patrons panoramic
vistas from cliff-side thatched roofed and gardened terraces that
are built in levels cascading out over the Bay. Diners flock to see
the sunset from these tropical havens.
Prices range considerably, but in general, an unforgettable dinner,
with drinks, wine and dessert, in one of Vallarta's finest
restaurants will cost substantially less than in North America or
Europe. Perhaps that is a main reason why dining out is one of the
favourite activities of visitors (and residents) in Vallarta. In
some of the very inexpensive seafood restaurants along the Bay, a
great seafood meal of giant shrimp, "camarones", served with garlic,
butter and spices, or freshly caught red snapper or dorado, served
with rice, a vegetable and the traditional tortillas, prices will be
even lower.
Traditionally, Mexican people like to eat their main meal between
2-4 p.m. (during "siesta"). "Comida Corridas", usually family-run
restaurants that open only during the afternoon, serve up a
Mexican-style meal that includes corn chips and soup to start, a
main course of fish, chicken or beef with frijoles (beans) and rice
on the side, and dessert, along with water flavored with fruit
juices. For those of you who don't mind packing away a major meal
that early in the day, these restaurants are the best deal in town.
